Hoops: Coaching and Recruiting Update

From trolling the various hoops message boards we learn the following:
  • Hiring News - Coach Fox has hired his 3rd and Final Assistant. Stacey Palmore joins the Bulldog coaching staff from Virginia Tech. Coach Palmore is originally from Greenwood, SC, and he was eager to move closer to home according to the Richmond Times Dispatch. At Virginia Tech, he recruited several players out of the Atlanta area.

  • Recruiting / Transfer News - Coach Fox was unable to attend to the Columbus Bulldog Club meeting last night because the AJC reports that he was doing some recruiting. Kipp Adams at UGASports.com says he was specifically recruiting Gerald Robinson, Jr. Robinson is a 6'1" 165 lb sophomore guard at Tennessee State who averaged 17.8 ppg and 3.8 apg last year. At UGA, he would probably play more of the SG than the point. You may say, "He's from a small school. So what?" Not so fast my friend. Last year, he scored:
      25 points at Kentucky
      15 points at Alabama
      16 points at Georgia Tech

He also scored 24 points as a freshman against Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. He would have two years of eligibility after he sits out next year due to transfer rules.

  • Walk-on / Transfer News - Connor Nolte will walk-on at Georgia. Nolte is a sophomore wing at Furman. He'll transfer to UGA and have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out this season. His little brother is Evan Nolte. Groo at DawgsOnline.com and Connor via his blog, PassersRemorse.com, let us know that Evan Nolte was named Freshman of the Year in AAAAA. Evan plays on the Milton High School powerhouse squad that includes The Milton Three in the Class of 2011. "The Milton Three" are Julian Royal (PF), Dai-Jon Parker (SG) and Shannon Scott (PG). They are three of the Top 5-6 players in the State for the 2011 class. Coach Fox will basically need an office at Milton High School given the amount of time he'll need to spend on that campus over the next three years. Having Connor Nolte talking up the staff can't hurt us.
Good news overall.
