Grant to Alabama. Donovan to Stay at UF

The Birmingham News has confirmed directly with Anthony Grant that he has accepted the head coaching job in Tuscaloosa. The Associated Press agrees. It appears that Grant was waiting to find out if Billy Donovan would jump to Lexington and open up the job in Gainesville.

Donovan and the Gators had issued a statement that he would be staying at Florida before Gillispie's termination press conference was over.
"In response to the rumors circulating about my interest in other jobs, I wanted to address this as quickly as possible," Donovan said in a statement e-mailed by the school he works for in Gainesville. "I am committed to the University of Florida and look forward to continuing to build our program here."
The impact for UGA? I got the sense that Grant was viewed as a solid Plan B in Athens if a home run hire wasn't available. Now, Damon will swing for the fences without a safety net. Let's hope for the best.
